Mit Travelogue I – Twenty to eight gastiert ein Tanzklassiker mit besonderer Geschichte an den Sophiensælen: Es ist das Gründungsstück der Compagnie Sasha Waltz & Guests, uraufgeführt 1993, und der Auftakt zur ikonischen Travelogue-Trilogie. Die Wiederaufnahme ist eine Rückkehr zum Anfang, auch für die Sophiensæle: Sasha Waltz wird drei Jahre später im Jahr 1996 mit Allee der Kosmonauten das Haus als freies Theater eröffnen. Mit Humor, Aggressivität und Sinnlichkeit zeichnet Sasha Waltz in Travelogue I – Twenty to eight ein Sittenbild der Gegenwart, das seit seiner Uraufführung 1993 nichts an Brisanz und Relevanz eingebüßt hat. Bis heute begeistert das zeitlose Stück, in dem die Choreografin selbst lange tanzte, das Publikum weltweit.
Anlässlich der Wiederaufnahme wird das Tanzstück erneut an eine andere Tänzer*innengeneration weitergegeben. Das Berliner Publikum konnte Travelogue I – Twenty to eight zuletzt im Januar 2018 im Radialsystem erleben. Bereits 2007 wurde das Stück, das die Compagnie und das Publikum seit über 30 Jahren sehr erfolgreich durch viele Länder begleitet, an eine neue Tänzer*innengeneration übergeben: Der Repertoire-Gedanke, das „Living Archive“, ist ein wichtiger Ausgangspunkt in der künstlerischen Arbeit von Sasha Waltz & Guests. Gleichzeitig werden mit dem neuen Cast im Rahmen der 175. Vorstellung am 28.02. auch Teile der ursprünglichen Besetzung auf der Bühne stehen.

With Travelogue I - Twenty to eight, a dance classic with a special history makes a guest appearance at the Sophiensæle: It is the founding piece of the company Sasha Waltz & Guests, first performed in 1993, and the prelude to the iconic Travelogue trilogy. The revival is a return to the beginning, also for the Sophiensæle: three years later, in 1996, Sasha Waltz will open the house as an independent theater with Allee der Kosmonauten. In Travelogue I - Twenty to eight, Sasha Waltz uses humor, aggression and sensuality to paint a moral picture of the present that has lost none of its explosiveness and relevance since its premiere in 1993. To this day, the timeless piece, in which the choreographer herself danced for many years, continues to thrill audiences worldwide.
On the occasion of the revival, the dance piece will once again be passed on to another generation of dancers. Berlin audiences last saw Travelogue I - Twenty to eight in January 2018 at the Radialsystem. The piece, which has successfully accompanied the company and audiences through many countries for over 30 years, was passed on to a new generation of dancers back in 2007: The idea of repertoire, the “Living Archive”, is an important starting point in the artistic work of Sasha Waltz & Guests. At the same time, parts of the original cast will be on stage with the new cast for the 175th performance on February 28.
