Jazz im Pool #43 - Olivia Trummer Trio
Time for new beginnings. The Olivia Trummer Trio explores boundaries and tentatively ventures into pop with the means and values of jazz. In brand new songs, catchy melodies meet musical virtuosity, spontaneous creativity combines with grooves enjoyable from head to toe. The songs tell of unexpected detours on the journey of life, of love that can dissolve space and time. It is music that invites one to see the world with new, open eyes. Early performances have elicited enthusiastic reactions: “Simply divine [...] delightfully difficult to define [...] a magnetic trio.” (Libertà, Pietro Corvi)
The German pianist, singer, and composer Olivia Trummer is considered one of the most interesting jazz musicians of her generation. With keys and voice, she forms new connections between genres, for which she has already been awarded multiple times. Her years of study in New York City and her close relationship with classical music have always served as sources of inspiration. She is active on stages worldwide, as a bandleader of her own projects as well as a member of Kurt Rosenwinkel’s “Caipi” band. Jazzwise Magazine (UK) writes: “Trummer’s music sarges the same sense of joyousness and wonder as that of her contemporary, Esperanza Spalding.” (Peter Quinn / jazzwise magazine).
With Makar Novikov from Moscow, the Olivia Trummer Trio features one of the most renowned Russian jazz double bassists. As an experienced accompanist and virtuosic soloist, he has played with, for example, Jimmy Cobb, Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, and James Spaulding, and regularly appears with Alex Sipiagin, Antonio Faraò, Chico Freeman, and Isfar Sarabski. Stranded on tour in Italy with only one suitcase at the outbreak of the war, he now lives in Northern Italy, teaches at Siena Jazz University, and can be seen as a fortunate newcomer to the European jazz scene.
The versatile American drummer and multi-instrumentalist Earl Harvin from Texas is known for his work and tours with Seal, Jeff Beck, Damien Rice, and Air, and is cited by Ari Hoenig as a significant influence. As versatile as the spectrum of his collaborations is his playing, characterized by a special intensity even in the softest pianissimo and a pronounced sense of grooves that perfectly “dress” a song.
