A WILD WOMEN CIRCUS
They are funny, bizarre, touching, and sometimes even angry – but in any case, truly great artists! The Barbarians Barbies passionately and forcefully engage with the notions of femininity, dissecting male roles and female images with uproarious humor, zest for life, and wonderfully shocking silliness. There’s a trapeze act intertwined with magic, a world-class Cyr wheel performance, hula hoop, hat juggling, unique tightrope artistry, spectacular acts, contemporary dance, drag kings, clowns, and incredibly funny comedy. Just imagine the five circus performers as a mix of Berlin's underground cabaret and the Spice Girls in Las Vegas. An ode to strong women and the joy of human existence.
The Barbarians Barbies are an international contemporary circus collective based in Berlin. At the forefront of the production is the love for comedy and circus, which are united on stage. Their refreshing and unabashed humor, combined with dance, theater, and modern circus, offers the audience a bold and entertaining evening. There is cheeky laughter and brave opinions take the spotlight. The five-member collective from Germany, Canada, Finland, and New Zealand came together in the early days of the pandemic, throwing their many talents into one big pot. With the gathered experiences of each individual from countless internationally performed shows, the premiere was celebrated in March 2022 at the Pfefferberg Theater in Berlin. They have performed at the ATOLL Festival in Karlsruhe and at Café Hahn in Koblenz, among others.
