"Unbridled - unpretentious - unstoppable and true."
This title is a program, because there could be no better way to describe one of the most distinctive rock voices in Germany. From smoky to delicate, from powerful to subtle, there is hardly a register that Anne Haigis cannot fill with her voluminous voice.
Even after more than 40 years "on stage", after 16 studio and live albums, numerous solo and collaborative projects, Anne Haigis burns for the stage, for her audience, for her songs that have become life anthems, and are inextricably linked to artistic kindred spirits and companions. Songs that tell of personal encounters or significant experiences, on a private level as well as on the large societal stage.
Discovered by jazz pianist Wolfgang Dauner, among others, Melissa Etheridge, Eric Burdon, Nils Lofgren, Tony Carey, Edo Zanki, Wolf Maahn, and the Harlem Gospel Singers belong to those companions who, in collaboration with Anne Haigis, have created timeless classics like "No man’s land," the song that Tony Carey wrote for the trio Haigis/Carey/Burdon, and is now more relevant than ever given the current world situation.
For many songs, the artist reveals backgrounds, offering insights that evoke "Aha," "Oh, I see," or simply amusement from the audience. Who would have thought, for example, that she initially did not like her first major hit "Freundin" very much? "It catapulted me into the ZDF Hitparade, which was an absolute disgrace for me, the rock chick," Haigis reports with a wink, as she has long made peace with her song, which became the carefree anthem for friends in the 80s. Today, it is particularly audience favorites like "Kind der Sterne," "Geheime Zeichen," or "Wer fragt nach mir" that are celebrated frenetically by her listeners.
Musically, however, her roots lie in US Southern rock and blues, gospel, and singer/songwriter styles, which she immerses herself in with passionate dedication.
The absolute highlight of every one of her concerts remains "Walt zing Matilda," this magical moment when Anne Haigis reveals her innermost self with unabashed openness and regularly reaps storms of enthusiasm for it.
"One of the greatest German voices, sparkling like a magnificent diamond through the street dust" (Fuldaer Zeitung)
"Hammer voice with soul, she repeatedly shifts from the scratchy, full of life experience smoky timbre to the innocent, crystal-clear fine girl voice" (Südwest Presse)
"An evening concert with Anne Haigis is like being on the platform when the high-speed train has a clear passage. Seeking firm ground, then the hair flies back. So much steam, so much volume, so much expression, unbridled joy in life and music" (Hellweger Anzeiger)
