At the end of the year 2025, the vocal quartet Of Cabbages And Kings conceived their new concert program “Concurrency.” In it, the four singers address social, political, ecological, and psychological themes in new compositions, texts, and conceptual improvisations. Their core message: In an increasingly complex world, these topics are often depicted in a one-dimensional manner. They illuminate the many simultaneities of everyday life: how global crises, public discourses, professional necessities overlap with private needs. The simultaneously absurd, challenging, and touching facets of life are made experienceable for the audience through movements in space and various microphone techniques, making the thought behind “Concurrency” anything but abstract. Of Cabbages And Kings know how to invite the audience not just as silent observers but as part of their sonic center and actively engage in dialogue.
About Of Cabbages And Kings (GER / AUT / UK)
After a decade of intensive collaboration and three groundbreaking albums, the vocal quartet Of Cabbages And Kings has established itself as one of the most innovative ensembles at the intersection of jazz, creative music, and contemporary vocal music in Germany. The four singers combine the highest solo individuality with a multi-layered, characteristic ensemble sound. In 2023, the group opened itself outward for the first time: As part of the Cologne Jazzweek, international composers were invited to write commissioned compositions for the quartet. The resulting production Commissioned Works (with pieces by Sofia Jernberg, Kat Frankie, and Kristin Berardi) documents this new openness and laid the foundation for the current program “Concurrency.”

Since 2001, the International A-cappella Week Hannover - for almost a quarter of a century - has thrilled the vibrant choral scene of the city and its surroundings. Founded by Sandra van de Loo and Roger Cericius, the festival quickly evolved from a one-time event to an annual highlight, only pausing in 2020/21 due to the pandemic. Every year, established figures of the a-cappella world meet here with emerging newcomers and present themselves and their talents in concerts that couldn't be more diverse. Exciting workshops and masterclasses during the festival also foster new musical collaborations that sustainably enrich the regional cultural landscape. To date, over 200 concerts featuring several thousand international artists have been presented, delighting around 100,000 visitors from all over the world. As one of the two leading vocal festivals in Germany (alongside Leipzig), the International A-cappella Week Hannover is regarded internationally as a beacon of the scene.
